Tucker, GA — Tucker First United Methodist Church has created a new mission oriented community container garden in Tucker and it is aptly named, “The Tucker Mission Garden.”

The community is invited to attend a short consecration service for the garden on Sunday, April 25 at 12:15 pm, a press release says.

The Tucker Mission Garden is located on Fourth Street in Tucker behind the main church building.

The Tucker Mission Garden has three main objectives: to provide fresh produce for hungry neighbors in the community, to educate on sustainability and supporting our local ecosystem, and to strengthen community relationships by connecting community members and organizations. Additionally, a part of the garden is set aside as a pollinator garden (native Georgia plants) and another garden container is designated mobility friendly.

All the vegetables grown in the garden will be donated to NETWorks Cooperative Ministries, a local Tucker food bank.

NETWorks Executive Director, David Fisher said, “We are very excited about the community garden! Fresh vegetables are always a big hit with our pantry visitors. The harvest from this garden will provide great, nutritious options for our neighbors. Thank you for all the hard work that has been done and will be done in this garden.”

If you have questions or would like to volunteer, please contact Rev. Anne Cumings, Associate Pastor at Tucker First UMC, at [email protected]. If you would like to make a monetary donation towards the garden for the purchase of plants and supplies, you can donate online by going to http://www.tuckerfirst.org/giving.html.

Tucker First United Methodist Church is located at 5095 LaVista Road, Tucker, GA 30084. The church website is www.tuckerfirst.org.
