Stone Mountain, GA — Local business owner Darryl B. Gresham Sr. has announced his candidacy to be the next mayor of Stone Mountain.

He will hold a press conference on May 23 at his campaign headquarters, located at 825 Main Street in Stone Mountain.

“Gresham will speak about his platform with emphasizes on the city’s economy development,” his campaign announcement says.

Gresham said local vendors are invited to attend.

“In order to support our local business and make Stone Mountain Village thrive again, local vendors and food trucks are welcome to participate,” he said. “This will help to support small businesses in the area.”

Here’s more information about Gresham:

Darryl B Gresham Sr was born in Atlanta, Georgia and lived in Perry Homes public housing. He grew up in the city of Decatur, Allen Wilson Terrace and Swanson Heights public housing. The family finances were few, but rich in love and happiness. Darryl Gresham’s father was a truck driver and heavy equipment operator. He spent most of his time on the road separated from the family. Darryl’s mother spent her life working to provide for his six siblings including two adopted sisters. As a single mother, she worked in the local school system as a cafeteria cook and custodian for thirty years. His mother raised him and his siblings to dream big and to never give up on anything they set out to achieve. Darryl learned, that in spite of their impoverished conditions his mother had the ability to make life a little better. She always teaches him t have hope and to dream big. After taking his mother’s advice, Darryl applied himself to sports. He eventually became a leader on the Decatur High School (DHS class of ’83) basketball team winning 57 consecutive games, and ranked number 2 in the nation. He later received a full athletic scholarship to the University of Florida, where he earned several Southeastern Conference (SEC) awards. Darryl was invited to the Boston Celtics National Basketball Association (NBA), subsequently concluding his professional basketball career in Canada and Austria.

Then life happened. Darryl found himself immured in the justice system. Upon reentry, he became a mentor for inner city youth at Making A Difference in Our Community (M.A.D.I.O.C) and a volunteer basketball coach at Action Sports Academy (ASA).

Since 2007, Darryl became a small business owner and served as the CEO of Khemit Enterprises, a now 14-year-old successful logistics & consulting company that manages transportation and investigates personal injury.

In recent years, Darryl continued his education and became the first member of his family to graduate from college. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the HBCU Alcorn State University, with a concentration in Psychology and Education.

Darryl is a father of 4, grandfather of 9, owner of 2 dogs, member of the ASPCA.

The little boy from public housing, remembered his mother’s advice to “dream big” and have hope. As mayor for The City of Stone Mountain, Darryl B Gresham Sr will give the dream a wake-up call and fight for the people. It’s a new day!
