DeKalb County, GA — DeKalb County Police Chief Mirtha Ramos is staying put for now.

Previously, NPR’s Austin station reported Ramos was among nearly four dozen candidates who have applied to be the police chief in Austin, Texas.

But on Aug. 11, Ramos confirmed she’s withdrawn her name from consideration.

“I have officially withdrawn my name from consideration for the Austin Police chief position,” she said. “I appreciate the opportunity to continue working with DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond, Public Safety Director Joseph Lumpkin and the courageous men and women of the police department as we use American Rescue Plan funding to implement our strategic plan to transform law enforcement.”

DeKalb County hired her in 2019. She previously worked with the Miami-Dade Police Department.
