New 128-unit Starnes Senior Residences opens in Clarkston

Clarkston, GA — A new senior residence is now open in Clarkston. The Housing Authority of DeKalb County and the Housing Development Corporation celebrated the grand opening of Starnes Senior Residences on Thursday, Nov. 4. The facility is a 128-unit new construction senior community built and designed for independent seniors aged 62 and older, according to a press release.

Starnes Senior Residences is a four-story mid-rise building. Amenities include a computer and business center, a community room, a wellness center, a fitness center, an arts and crafts center, and a courtyard with a community garden and an outdoor gazebo.

Other amenities include 24-hour emergency maintenance service, on-site laundry facilities, washer and dryer connections, and internet access. Resident Services will offer regularly organized wellness and social activities for all residents.

The community is 100% affordable with the unit mix consisting of efficiency and one-bedroom apartments ranging from 569 to 724 square feet, and many have outdoor patios. The apartment building has 10 project based voucher units administered by the Housing Authority.

The Housing Development Corporation was the lead co-developer on this project, alongside the Beverly J. Searles Foundation. Starnes Senior Residences was financed using tax-exempt bonds and 4% low-income housing tax credits.

About 50% of the units are currently occupied, and the residence is in the lease-up stage.

Starnes Senior Residence is located at 3543 Clarkston Industrial Boulevard.
