Tucker, GA — Tucker Planning Commission is recommending to City Council approval of two Special Land Use Permits (SLUP) for a Shell gas station located at 4114 LaVista Road.

The property is a one-acre parcel with an existing oil change facility, convenience store, fuel pumps and a car wash located a LaVista Road and Parklake Drive. One SLUP is required for fuel pumps and one is required for the sale of alcohol on the premises.

The applicant is requesting to redevelop the site to make necessary upgrades to the existing services provided, according to a memo from city staff. The site plan features a 5,000 sq. ft convenience store and fuel canopy for eight fuel pumps with four aisles. The car wash will be demolished in the renovation and turned into parking, but Castrol Premium Lube Express will remain on site.

Courtney Smith, director of planning and zoning, said improving the property is consistent with the city’s comprehensive plan and will be complimentary to existing land uses in the area.

It will create a more attractive gateway, said Smith.

Blackwater Construction Group and Ingenium Enterprises, Inc. held a public meeting on Oct. 7. The application will now appear at City Council for a first read and public hearing on Dec. 13.

Planning Commission approved several small tweaks to their bylaws. This was the last meeting of 2021.

Planning Commission consists of seven members. The terms of Frank Sapp, Steve Smith, Seth Burrow and Cara Schroeder expire in January 2022. One seat is open, due to Jessica Vargas leaving the commission in September. Schroeder is in a runoff with Imani Barnes for City Council District 2, Post 1.

Chair Katherine Atteberry said, “It’s been a pleasure serving with you all. I know some of us are up for renewal next year, so who knows what the commission will look like in 2022, but it’s been a pleasure.”
