Tucker, GA — The city of Tucker on Tuesday, Jan. 4, warned residents that recycling and yard trimmings pickup might be disrupted in the coming weeks.

“Our partners at DeKalb Sanitation have let us know that they are experiencing staff shortages, that could impact service over the next few weeks,” the city announced in a Facebook post. “For the time being, they will prioritize garbage collection and will address recycling and yard trimmings as they are able. Thank you for your patience!”

Recently, the county confirmed that it has experienced staffing issues created by the surge in COVID-19 cases.

On Dec. 31, the county said sanitation customers had experienced disruption caused by the virus, but said “all solid waste and the majority of recycling and yard trimmings have been collected. Unserved customers should leave recycling carts and bagged yard trimmings at the curb.”

“Our crews will begin to collect the remaining items beginning on Monday, January 3,” the county’s press release added. “We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience during these challenging times.”

Tucker’s announcement indicates that the staffing problems are likely to continue in the days ahead.

DeKalb County Commissioner Steve Bradshaw shared the city of Tucker’s post and said, “PLEASE be patient with Sanitation!”
