Tucker, GA — As the latest variant of COVID-19 spikes infection rates across metro Atlanta, Tucker Parks and Recreation is working to adhere to Center for Disease Control guidelines. Changes to mitigation strategies were made based on increasing numbers of COVID-19 in Georgia and nationwide, said Parks and Recreation Director Rip Roberston.

For entry into the rec center, staff is checking temperatures and asking questions about exposure and illness. Masks are available at the front desk.

“We are requesting mask-wearing in all common areas and in rooms with groups over 25,” said Robertson.

The last two days of winter camp were canceled “due to the increased numbers seen throughout the U.S.” but programs are running as scheduled. Robertson said Tucker Parks and Rec did not want to create any uncomfortable situations for families and staff.

In other Parks and Rec news, youth baseball/softball information will be published in the next couple of weeks. Robertson said there has been a large increase in youth basketball participation, and he is anticipating the same increase in the spring baseball league.

Tucker Parks and Rec is also marking Martin Luther King, Jr., Day with service projects around the city on Jan. 17. Volunteers can sign up here.
