Tucker, GA — The Tucker Target store was evacuated on Feb. 8 after a CO2 leak triggered the building’s carbon dioxide alarm.

The store is located at 4241 LaVista Road.

DeKalb County Fire Rescue Capt. Jaeson Daniels said, “On our arrival, we received high readings of CO2. The entire building was evacuated while we located, mitigated and ventilated the structure.”

Daniels said the issue stemmed from the Starbucks inside the Target store. They use carbon dioxide for their carbonated drinks and one of the valves on the tanks wasn’t tightened well, he said. Daniels said Fire Rescue crews went in, cleared the building due to the high volume of carbon dioxide, and ventilated the building.

Once the store was safe to enter, the firefighters turned it over to the manager. There were no injuries, Daniels said.
