Stone Mountain, GA — A Stone Mountain City Councilmember organized the 4th annual back-to-school block party at the Rockborough Subdivision in Stone Mountain on Saturday, Aug. 13.

“It’s wonderful to give back to the community when you can see a child who receives a free book bag. I really enjoy it,” Stone Mountain City Councilmember Shawnette Bryant.

Bryant said she has put together other free book bag and school supply events during her time on council. Georgia State Sen. Kim Jackson and DeKalb County Commissioner Steve Bradshaw also provided book bags and supplies for the event.

Janette Miles, a 23-plus-year resident of the community, said, “We just are so appreciative of Shawnette with the initiation of our back-to-school block party. It’s just a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together, including our law enforcement officers as well. We really appreciate everyone who comes out and supports.”
