Tucker, GA — Tucker’s pedestrian and bike trail is approaching a milestone – Segment 1A in downtown is nearly finished. The city is becoming more connected as Main Street alleys are opening for gathering, lingering and taking in the city.

Funded by the City of Tucker through SPLOST, Tucker trail segment 1A was designed by KAIZEN Collaborative with assistance from the Path Foundation and is being built by Hasbun Construction. The project began in March.

This is one of several transformational projects that is connected with the Downtown Tucker street grid, originally laid out in 1892.

Continuity is key in the project. Sidewalks are lined with brick that matches the existing brick on Main Street, and decorative streetlights in the alleys are going to match those on neighboring streets.

From Lavista Road to Railroad Avenue and Main Street to Second Street, alleys will include benches and bike racks.

According to Tucker-Northlake CID, converting one of the alleys into a plaza for pedestrian use was first envisioned in a 1964 development plan that was never implemented. The idea gained attention through the Tucker Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) in 2005. The current implementation is the result of planning efforts between the CID and the city.
